Google Chat, the business-centric messaging platform, has unveiled plans to introduce a voice messaging feature, expanding its communication capabilities. This rollout will occur in two phases over the next month, catering to the evolving needs of users.

Acknowledging the widespread adoption of voice messaging across popular messaging apps, Google Workspace Updates describes the addition as 'highly requested.' Initially available to select Enterprise tiers of Google Workspace, the feature will gradually extend to broader user bases beyond the business realm.

Despite the anticipation surrounding this update, users should note certain limitations. Initially accessible only on Chat mobile, users can send voice messages from their smartphones but not from the web interface. However, web users retain the ability to playback messages received from mobile devices. The functionality mirrors similar features found in competing platforms. Users can initiate recording by tapping the microphone icon, with options to playback, delete, or send the message.

While Google may lag behind in introducing voice messaging in 2024, an upcoming enhancement promises to set it apart. Future updates will incorporate transcription for voice messages, offering a potential advantage over competitors. This addition could prove invaluable for users navigating environments where audio playback may be impractical.

Google is exploring the possibility of revolutionizing the app download experience on the Play Store by introducing 'parallel downloads.' Currently, users must patiently wait for one app to complete its download before initiating the next. However, recent findings by  suggest that Google is revisiting the concept of allowing users to download multiple apps simultaneously, as observed in version 40.0.13.
