TL;DR

  • Phones get an AI boost thanks to advanced chipsets like Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 7 Gen 3, designed for on-device AI magic.

  • Samsung's UFS 4.0 storage makes phones scream, improving AI app performance and loading times.

Phone manufacturers are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to propel their flagship devices into the future. However, to fully harness AI capabilities, advanced hardware is essential. The latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipsets are specifically engineered to support on-device AI functionalities, marking a significant advancement in mobile processing power.

In addition to powerful chipsets, the speed of phone performance is influenced by various components, including storage. Samsung Semiconductor's groundbreaking UFS 4.0 storage technology offers twice the read and write speeds of its predecessor, UFS 3.1. Recently, Samsung Semiconductor unveiled its roadmap for future storage innovations, including the upcoming UFS 4.0 4-lane CS, slated for release in 2025 with production commencing in 2024. This enhanced storage solution combines two UFS controllers to deliver significantly improved sequential read speeds, promising faster loading times and enhanced performance for on-device AI applications.

Looking further ahead, Samsung plans to introduce UFS 5.0 technology by 2027, boasting even faster speeds of up to 10GB/s. This advancement hints at the potential inclusion of lightning-fast storage in future Galaxy devices, potentially revolutionizing user experience and AI capabilities. With production set to begin this year, speculation arises regarding which Galaxy phone will be the first to integrate UFS 4.0 4-lane storage, with the Galaxy S25 series emerging as a likely candidate.
