The Surface Duo, which is manufactured by microsoft has been scheduled to recommence receival of updates, starting from January, 2022. This software update arrives after Surface Duo users have been left without any OS upgrade for more than a year.

The first Surface Duo launched in september 10, 2020 with Android 10 Operating System.

Microsoft made announcements of its intention to release OS 11 updates for the Surface Duo last year (2021), but the company did not carry on with its plans as expected. Newer phone models are now shipping with android 12, while the Surface Duo still runs the native Android 10 (in general terms). This delay in delivery can be traced to Microsoft's divestment from its windows mobile phone operating system, and its subsequent removal of the OS from Microsoft's line of mobile phones and phablets -the Surface Duo and the more recently launched Surface Duo 2.

The structure of the Surface Duo's Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is noticeably different from the vast majority of normal android qualcomm builds. Microsoft built it entirely in-house, which indicates that the Surface Duo was likely designed from the onset without the Android OS in view. The personalised UEFI enables microsoft to have full control over firmware components of the Surface Duo, which means it will get more tailored firmware updates than many other foldables of its kind.

This update will beef up the security and stability of the Surface Duo phablet, and you may need to install it promptly as it gets rolled out, in order for your microsoft-branded foldable to attain its full performance level.

Verdict

As a globally recognised company, Microsoft will need to keep up with the pace of providing more timely OS installs across its platform-dependent devices, this is to infer not just the Surface Duo in question.

Security is paramount when it boils down to tech gadgets. The android platform is really powerful, and as a testament to that, i blog most of the time with my smartphone, whenever i get busy, and want to stay productive, rather than just sitting down, creating content on a PC. Yes, and frankly, i have not noticed any difference between the performance of my smartphone and my PC basing this on multitasking demands alone. I just seem to get along with both devices quite easily though. Beyond reasonable doubts, this is a shear admissibility of the raw power of today's smartphones, and with this graphics power, it is important that security should be made available round-the-clock for the vast majority of smartphone users out there.
