What is an Accelerometer?

An accelerometer.

An accelerometer is a device contained in electronic systems, found in phones, tablets, laptops and other machineries, which measures linear motion. An accelerometer detects acceleration (the rate of change of change of velocity) of an object.

An accelerometer is used to detect vibrations in electronics, as well as serving orientation purposes, for software applications.
